Insurance
1. Introduction
The Defensive Fitness Academy (DFA) is an affiliate of the British Martial Arts and Boxing Association (BMABA), and is able to provide student insurance to DFA Members.
“Student Insurance”, “DFA Martial Arts Insurance” or “DFA Member Insurance” are used interchangeably and refer to the same insurance as explained in this DFA Policy – specifically Public Liability Insurance and Personal Accident Cover.
This DFA Insurance Policy page is designed to provide a general overview of the Insurance available to DFA Members.
Full details of Insurance policies, specific Policy Wordings, Inclusions and Exclusions are provided upon purchase of DFA Advanced Membership or when Core members purchase DFA Member Insurance.
DFA Member Insurance and martial arts / sports insurance is not a pre-requisite for training, is optional, and is also not an indication of the risk of training self defence / Krav Maga with Defensive Fitness Academy.
Safety in Training is of paramount importance and all necessary steps are taken to ensure every DFA Members safety. DFA offers insurance as an additional measure of protection and to provide the safest training environment.
2. Mission Statement
We believe your training experience should be simple, safe and stress free.
That’s why every DFA member has access to insurance designed specifically for people who want to train safely, confidently, and without worry.
And while safety is at the very heart of our training, sometimes accidents do happen, which is why every DFA Advanced membership includes Public Liability Insurance and Personal Accident Cover as standard, and is available to Core members at a competitive price.
- Public Liability (PL) protects you during classes, seminars, and training activities in the unlikely event that a third party is injured or property is damaged.
- Personal Accident Cover (PA) can help support you if you suffer injuries such as fractures or dental damage while training.
3. Important Considerations
- The decision to take out insurance is entirely at the buyer’s discretion.
- DFA are unable to advise on whether insurance is suitable for your individual needs, or recommend the most suitable policy for your individual circumstances, or desired level of cover.
- You should carefully consider your own requirements and, where appropriate, seek independent advice from a qualified insurance professional before making any insurance-related decisions.
- The DFA can accept no responsibility for any insurance policies taken out by the buyer. All insurance arrangements, including coverage, terms, conditions, and claims, are solely between the buyer and the relevant insurer.
- Any questions, concerns, or disputes relating to the insurance policy should be directed directly to the insurer providing the cover.
- Any insurance purchased will be subject to the terms, conditions, exclusions, and limitations of the relevant insurer.
- Public liability insurance does not automatically pay out if you are injured. It is in place to cover your liability to the public, for injury, or damage to property.
- Personal Accident Cover provides compensation without a party being at fault, if you are injured during training.
- Personal Accident cover is not a replacement for medical insurance.
- Personal Accident Cover is intended to supplement medical insurance and provide additional coverage specifically for injuries sustained while participating in martial arts.
4. Administration and Management of Insurance
- DFA Member Insurance registration is arranged by Defensive Fitness Academy and administered by the BMABA.
- Public Liability Insurance policies are underwritten by AXA XL Insurance Company Ltd.
- Personal Accident Cover is underwritten by Travellers @ Lloyd’s via Pulse Insurance Ltd.
5. DFA Member Insurance – General Overview & Process
- Upon enrolment of an applicable DFA Membership Plan, the DFA will register the new DFA Member with the BMABA.
- Registration allows the DFA to allocate insurance to DFA Members and for DFA Members to benefit from insurance should an incident occur.
6. How to make a claim
- Any and all incidents must be reported immediately to the Lead Instructor and details captured on the Online Incident Report Form.
- The Lead Instructor will report the incident to the BMABA within 48 hours.
- Should injury occur to the DFA Member, the DFA Member may be asked to complete an online claim form directly with the insurer.
- Accidents must be reported within 30 days.
7. Policy Review
